One of the things people often say before a photoshoot is:
"I'm awkward in front of the camera."
Honestly, I get it.
The truth is, I'm not particularly interested in perfectly posed photographs anyway.
In fact, one of the reasons I became a photographer is because I have always been fascinated by the moments that happen in between. The moments nobody plans. The ones that unfold naturally when you're relaxed, comfortable, and focused on something other than having your picture taken.
If you are looking for a photographer who will carefully direct every movement and tell you exactly where to put your hands, I'm probably not the right fit for you.
But, if you are looking for photographs that feel like you, then we might get along very well.
What Happens During My Photography Sessions?
People are often surprised by how little "posing" happens during my shoots.
My approach is simple: I want you to feel like we are spending time together rather than participating in a formal photoshoot.
Whether I'm photographing a family, a creative business owner, an artist, or a couple, my goal is always the same. I want to create an environment where you can relax enough to forget about the camera.
Most of my sessions are intentionally small and quiet. Usually it's just me and you, or me and your family.
No audience.
No pressure.
No performing.
Just space to be yourself.
And somewhere in the middle of all that, the photographs happen.
It's the split-second glances that I love the most,
The burst of laughter that catches everyone by surprise.
The way your child reaches for your hand.
The look you exchange with your partner when you think nobody is watching.
The pause between activities when you are completely immersed in something you love.
These are the moments that tell a story.
Years from now, I don't think you'll be wondering whether your hand was positioned perfectly.
I think you will want to remember how that season of life felt.
That's what documentary photography allows us to preserve.
By the time I sit down to edit your images, I'm not simply looking at photographs. I'm remembering conversations, funny moments, stories you have told me, and the little interactions that unfolded naturally throughout our time together.
Photography isn't separate from the experience itself.
The experience becomes part of the photographs.
That's why I believe enjoying your session matters just as much as the final images.
What If You Feel Awkward in Front of the Camera?
This is probably the question I'm asked most often.
My answer is always the same:
You don't need to know how to pose.
You don't need to perform.
You don't need to be photogenic.
You just need to show up as yourself.
My job isn't to create a version of you that doesn't exist.
My job is to notice the things that already make you wonderful.
The way you laugh.
The way you connect with the people you love.
The way your eyes light up when you're talking about something that matters to you.
Those are the details worth remembering.
These details make for Beautiful Photos.
